Highclere Valley

by Freckle Design Studio

Freckle Design Studio creates clean, sophisticated brands and websites for some pretty elite clients who need their websites to perform at the highest level.

Highclere Valley Stud Farm understood the assignment when it came to capturing their already-established brand in photos for this upscale Squarespace 7.1 site.

DEV SESSION | Winter 2025

Highclere Valley Stud Farm is an established brand with generations of trust and loyalty as one of the world’s leading independent stud farms.

Designer Claudia Costa-Rowse, of Freckle Design Studio, brought this timeless brand into the digital age with a chic, ahem, workhorse of a Squarespace site.

In our very first discussion for this DEV SESSION, Claudia told me that her goal for the Highclere site was to lay the foundations that would allow this brand to grow into their new SQSP site on their own time.

Since Highclere would be making updates, all development was done with that in mind. Even the custom sections are easy to update for this multi-operational stud farm and vacation destination.

Freckle Design Studio kept things light and sophisticated with playful illustrations and animations.

These customized details and scrolling effects add a touch of tongue-in-cheek to this stunning site.

Feature Spotlight

Pop-out Mobile Menu

This pop-out mobile menu on desktop adds an extra layer of glam to this already elevated site.

Big shout out to Rache over at Squarestylist for the foundational code for this effect.

Bonus points that this effect utilizes the built-in header structure for an uninterrupted SEO implementation and experience.

DEV SESSION | Winter 2025

Meet Claudia Costa-Rowse

Founder at Freckle Design Studio

Claudia is a developer’s designer. She delivers crispy designs for big-time websites with an effortlessness that I am, quite frankly, jealous of.

Feature Spotlight

Scroll-based Animations

It’s not just static images that you can add movement to, thanks to CSS-based scroll animations.

It’s a day well spent when you get to add these cheeky animations to GIFs like this horse trotting along to users’ scrolling movement.

Admittedly, I had to get, ahem, reigned in a bit to keep these animations light and fun throughout the site.

Mockup v. Website

The collaboration of Dev Sessions are based on the designer’s mockups. Take a look at the relationship between developer and designer through this mockup and website comparison.

Feature Spotlight

Hover Effect on Carousel

Freckle Design focused on presenting information in clear, organized ways.

This hover effect on a section carousel presents different paths for visitors to take, without overwhelming the eye with too much text.

By building this effect using a carousel section, clients can easily make updates in the future.
